Crew Academy West | Applying for a License for a Young Person and Working with Children in Film & TV Production

This will be a 3-hour course with an additional 30min guest speaker

In this hands-on course, we will walk through making child license applications and also look at working with children on set. Children’s working hours and breaks as well as communication between the production and parents/guardians and children.

What this course will include:

  • Who you will apply to and notes for employing a young person.
  • Criteria for applying for a child license.
  • How to fill out an application form correctly
  • Documentation needed to apply.
  • Filling in time sheets and working hours for children

Tutor Profile:  Bernie McGrath has more than 25 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Working in Festival Production and Music Management for 20 years before moving into Film and TV production in 2017. Bernie has worked both nationally and internationally with credits on several productions, including Valhalla, Professionals, The Wonder and Fate: The WINX SAGA to name a few. Bernie is extremely passionate about the Irish screen industry and is excited to develop and deliver training for Irish crew through the National Talent Academies

David Kennedy has worked as an assistant director across all roles in Film & TV drama for over 14 years, specialising in Extras Casting & Coordination and as a Crowd 2nd Assistant Director. He has extensive experience in the Assistant Director department on both Irish and International Film and TV drama. His credits include Penny Dreadful (Showtime), The Turning (Amblin Entertainment/DreamWorks Pictures), Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix), The Professor and the Madman (Voltage Pictures), The Rhythm Section (Paramount Pictures), Calvary (Entertainment One), Foundation – Season 2 (Apple TV), and The Banshees of Inisherin (Searchlight Pictures). He has also worked on a variety of TV commercials, promos, music videos and short films and is currently working as a Casting Director at West Coast Casting, supplying talent to productions in the West of Ireland.
